Homemade Pet Odor Removal

There is no need to buy costly products when you can easily make homemade pet odor removers. Try any of the following and you will see how the odor and stains dissipate without much effort.

Removing Urine Stains and Odor

When you see pet urine, put some paper towels over the area immediately. The longer it is left there, the longer the odor will stay. Don’t wipe the area; this will cause the urine to spread. Just put the towel over it and let it dry. When the floor is dry, mix 1 part water and 1 part vinegar in a cup.

Stir this mix. Pour on the spot. Use electric fans to dry it. Put baking soda over it. Leave it there overnight and vacuum the following morning. This is one of the most effective homemade pet odor removers you can try. It works not only with urine but  also with other stains.

Removing Clothing Stains and Odors

Cover the wet area with paper towels. Allow it to absorb all the liquids. Put some pre-stain remover on the garments. The instructions may vary. Usually, you have to put a certain amount on the area and leave it there for a few minutes.

Clean it in the washing machine if that is permissible. Remember that clothes are cleaned in different ways. Some require hand washing, while others, a washing machine.

Use the appropriate method for that particular fabric. When using this type of homemade pet odor remover, allow the clothing to dry fully.

Cleaning Floor Boards

If the odor persists, the floor boards could be stained. Take off the carpet. Mix some bleach and water. Rub this on the floor. Dry it with a cloth. Don’t put the carpet back on until it is completely dried.

Other Methods

You can also use peroxide to remove pet odors and stains. Combine peroxide with water. Dip a sponge onto this mix and scrub the wet area. You can also use dishwashing liquid. Get a small container. Put in a quart of water and a couple of tablespoons of vinegar. Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Mix these ingredients and apply this homemade pet odor remover on the affected area.

To clean the front rug, combine a pound of baking soda with cleaning detergents. Mix the ingredients and wipe the area. To clean the bed, spray it with some borax and start rubbing. Give it time to dry and start vacuuming.

The most effective way to prevent pet odor from happening is by properly training the animal. It is also a good idea to clean the doghouse. Needless to say, it really helps if you keep the house clean.

Some people have also reported that using carpet shampoos are effective cleansing agents. Be careful when applying these detergents; too much might damage the flooring.
